| | | Re: Black weevil with amber legs I think you can happily say it's a Protapion species from a photo, but there are lots of species in this genus and lots of intraspecific variation. Even with a specimen they're tricky to identify.

Even with a specimen they're tricky to identify. | Unless you make the rather unexplainable mistake I did earlier the species is quite distinctive only to be confused with P.nigritarse which has paler antenna at the base and mid-section (funiculus) which is quite distinctive. I have never heard of this feature being particularly variable. Protapion apricans and Protapion assimile have dark tibia for example. I would assume its a species that can be IDed from a photo. |
