| | | Orange and white barkfly Well I think it's a barkfly?
Stony Stratford, Bucks. Help with identification appreciated as always.

| | | Re: Orange and white barkfly Evening Bruce,
Yes, one of the wingless ones - this is Cerobasis guestfalica. To me it's distinctive enough to identify pretty well even with the naked eye, with it's orange markings and obvious lack of wings. Now, I can't find where I read it now, but the anchor-like orange marking on the face is apparently a clincher! You did well to spot it
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: Orange and white barkfly Aha, another we have the same Bruce!
I got one on my wall on 16th and 17th October. tiny thing about 2mm long.
I just checked another I had on the same wall (my magic wall ) on 3rd November which I think is Epicaecilius pilipennis, uncommon in Britain and Ireland. Records shown are from 1850!
OK Jason, I will post them on another thread for you to see! In fact I need to post all I have at some stage, I got one yesterday on a floating hyacinth on my pond which was only around 1mm long, a baby I think but it has very hairy antennae and no wings.

I got another which is green and white in my greenhouse, poor pics though as it was hiding under leaves and the flash was blocked. I didn't see it again but it will be there and probably has eggs, I have found eggs on the leaves there. It looks like Trichopsocus dalii. I'll start a thread when I get around to it. |

Now, I have a 'magic fence' and I'm always on the lookout for a 'magic wall' .
