| | | Stick insects I have just started to keep Stick Insects, i bought a few eggs on eBay for £1.50 .
They have just started to hatch, but some of them have trouble escaping from there egg casing, and i`m not sure why.
The one in the picture was stuck pretty bad, so i placed a cocktail stick over its egg casing, and de-misted it, and after a few minutes it freed itself.
So i`m wondering if its normal for them to get stuck in this way ?, and if so, what can i do about it ? ... |

| | | Re: Stick insects Yeah, sometimes they do that, you also might find some walking around with the egg case still attached to their legs. Possibly just a bit dry.
If you get a fine paintbrush and wet it you can gently give them a helping hand |

| | | Re: Stick insects Normally when they are a little too dry.
There are times when it can be a good thing - I had some E. tiaratum eggs that were un-fertilised so had been lying around (actually fallen behind monitor) for a loooong time. One day I could I could hear this weird tapping sound. When I finally found the tub I was surprised to see one newly hatched sticky marching round the tub with an egg attached to his foot He wouldn't have made it had it not got stuck poor thing so a good job really!
I ended up having to crush the egg carefully with pliers but I only do this as a last resort... It was really stuck!
Have fun! |
