| | | What Wasp? Filmed this wasp wandering around ivy on my garage the other day. Any ideas what it is? I was wondering if it could be a Median Wasp Dolichovespula media? or is it just a Common Wasp Vespula vulgaris ?
At the beginning of the film you can see the head markings quite well, especially if you pause the film. Common Wasp Wandering around the other day
Thanks. Jane |

Shouldn't that be 'Which wasp?"
Pedant-mode OFF...
Anyway, I agree with the YouTube respondent - looks like a Common Wasp ( V.vulgaris) to me but it's hard to be sure when it is moving about a lot |

I agree, V. vulgaris. Nice video, too.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: What Wasp? Agreed, Vespula vulgaris worker (female). It has a shorter abdomen (6 segments) than a male which has 7 . You can also see the broad stripe down the face and the yellow band behind the eye has a broken patch which indicate V. vulgaris. It moved very quickly, but with pausing these can be made out.

| | | Re: What Wasp? another V. vulgaris agreement.
freeze the video at 0:05 and you get a look at the facial markings
what size would you say it was? I cant work out if it is a queen (as suggested on youtube) or worker
