| | | Unidentified Pied Wasp
I only got one chance to take a photograoh of this wasp before it flew off never to be seen again. This explains the disappointing image.
I was surprised to see it so late in the season.
Can anyone please offer a suggestion on identification as I cannot find it in my insect books?.
Thank you,
Brian. |

I will have a look at the link you suggest.
Have clicked the link but it looks rather complicated for an 'old codger' like me. I hoped it was a forun like the one we are using. Thanks anyway.

Reason: Had look at link and was frightened off. It's an age thing.

I think I will settle for just an ichneumon fly.
It was great to have seen it ,even for that brief moment.

| | | Re: Unidentified Pied Wasp Have a look at this site, Brian Ichneumonidae - Ichneumoninae but I'm afraid that there are several species which look similar to your Ichneumon.
Worth a quick glance though. |

You are confirming just what I have been experiencing and that is so many insects prove difficult to identify because :-
1) So may look similar.
2) Knowing where to start in the search.
Many thanks for your help.
