| | | Unidentified pied wasp. I only got one chance to take a photograoh of this wasp before it flew off never to be seen again. This explains the disappointing image.
I was surprised to see it so late in the season.
Can anyone please offer a suggestion on identification as I cannot find it in my insect books?.

Pied wasp - new one on me. Can you give us some more info like colour/s, size, wings, legs etc.

Definitley pied but as I said it appeared and was gone in the blink of an eye.
