| | | Bee Mimic Fly for ID This photo was taken in June. Just wondered if anyone could help me with an ID for this fly which looks like it's one of the "bee mimics".
Many thanks.

| | | Re: Bee Mimic Fly for ID Evening Jane,
It's the Large Bulb Hoverfly, Meridon equestris. This form is equestris on account of the thorax bi-colouration.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Bee Mimic Fly for ID Yes, that was my thought, so I just double checked with 'Mr. Stubbs' and it still looks the most likely. That deep looped wing vein certainly points to Eristalini family. |

| | | Re: Bee Mimic Fly for ID Mine seems to be the same as this but I'm just not sure.
I posted my question in a really old thread because I didn't really know where to start a new thread. It's here Bumble-like flies..
Thanks

| | | Re: Bee Mimic Fly for ID As just stated on the other thread, I think more likely Merodon equestris var. bulborum.

| | | Re: Bee Mimic Fly for ID Thanks for all your help on this one. I'm going to miss not seeing so many insects in the garden over the winter! Although I still have plenty to ID from photos | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
