Is this a queen wasp?

New to the site and i've just uploaded a photo (I hope successfully) to the unidentified insects page.

It flew out of my chimney a week or so ago, I managed to capture it (although it took me several feeble attempts) and released it but now i'm wondering if it's a queen wasp will she return to our chimney next year? I hope she hasn't laid eggs Do wasps do that?

You had a Bombus terrestris queen, a bumblebee. She might have been sheltering in your chimney and fell down. In the southern part of the country this bee is active over winter with workers. I saw a queen not long ago when we had that warm weather, did that really happen?
