| | | Tachinid ID Hi,
I found this today failing to get the hang of backstroke in a puddle.
The markings, wing veins and orange legs all look quite good for Dexiosoma caninum (but I'm probably way off)
Is it usual for them to be on the wing this late in the year?
Regards

Certainly looks like Dexiosoma - does it have a ridge between the antenna or just the normal flat central facial area?
I'd say that it's a pretty rare, late record - perhaps they got an extra brood in or are just flying longer with the relatively mild weather? Belshaw says they fly until late August and in Europe they say late September - but late October will probably set a record! Can you PM me the exact details - location, grid-ref & collector's name etc?
Cheers

This is the best front on shot I've managed
I'll PM the details to you as soon as I've found the right map to get the grid ref.
As for Charlie and Gordon

Steve | Lol, sounds like a great place to be. There's not many houses where I am and the postcode only covers a small area but delivery drivers often have trouble finding me too! |
