| | | Tiny orange insects or nymphs Hope this is the right place to post this - spotted these tiny orange insects or nymphs crawling around a rotten piece of wood and now I'm intrigued as to their identity.
I wondered if they might be young Earwigs but whatever they are I'm glad that bit of wood didn't get brought in to my work table! |

| | | Re: Tiny orange insects or nymphs Hi Jenny,
Not sure. Have you seen them closer than they appear on the photo? If so, please describe the head and tail-end - antennae, trailing bits, etc - maybe use a magnifying glass if helpful. How big are they?
Take care, Jason |

I'm pretty sure they are one of the springtails but no idea which one! |

| | | Re: Tiny orange insects or nymphs Pretty sure these are thrips, but no idea what species. Most thrip species have two pairs of wings, but there are wingless ones.

| | | Re: Tiny orange insects or nymphs Thanks folks - having just googled the two suggestions I'm glad I didn't bring that bit of wood into the house!

| | | Re: Tiny orange insects or nymphs There are apparently a number of thrips species which feed on fungi and fungal spores so it's quite possible that these may be feeding on that stereum type growth. If so I don't suppose they would become a pest on houseplants etc.
