| | | Bug nymph? 0.5mm Hi,
Taken on 1st November 2009 at the base of my south facing wall. Approx. 0.5mm long, wondering if this is a nymph of Acalypta parvula which I recently saw in the same place. I don't think there's any pics of the nymphs about to compare..

See this thread - Trip Report: Battersea Park, and look at the fourth sub-section. I think mine may be the same as yours - a mite. I found mine on a London Plane tree, I'm guessing yours too was on a trunk? It's a great shot of something so tiny, too!
Take care, Jason |

Take care, Jason | I don't think so Jason, I have a few mites varying in size up to 1mm on the same wall bottom, where I got the pics of Acalypta parvula. They are more rounded, shiny and have thin legs with a tiny head.
Look carefully at my pic, the back is not rounded but silghtly more flattened, it has small indentations and 3 chunky little legs both sides without the palps at the front which mites have. Look at the head, it's broad and you should be able to see a large eye on either side. There's also visible some small antennae which have reddish ends. Not at all like a mite! |

The dark colour, small size and shape, and red tipped antennae do point to Acalypta parvula. I would have thought the small indentations of the back were a good clue too. Plus it was in the same place as I found an adult.... | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
