| | | Re: Odd coloured woodlouse I don't know much about different kinds of woodlice but I do find them fascinating. We sometimes find the pill bug type when we are out in our local woods, they roll up when my children get too close
It's interesting that you say they evolved in the sea, Jason. I recall some years ago finding some absolutely huge sand species along the rocky shoreline beneath the Humber Bridge. They really looked prehistoric.
In a morning we frequently find the common grey woodlice in our bathroom - I tend to put them outside as I wouldn't want to harm them.

| | | Re: Odd coloured woodlouse Hi sneezewort,the large species you saw is likely to be the Common sea slater Ligia oceanica at up to 30mm long. Porcellio scaber or the Common rough woodlouse is the one that normally makes its way into houses.And the ones that roll up are probably Armadillidium vulgare ,the common pill woodlouse.
