| | | Re: Two for ID - Damsel bug? Hi Lori,
Love the first! It's a beetle from the Staphyliniidae family - a Rove Beetle. Not sure of the exact name... will update the post when I remember/research it. Seen it several times. Do you have a dorsal of the second? It looks nice and distinctive and is one I think I know, I just can't quite place it.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Two for ID - Damsel bug? Well, your damselbug is a rove beetle - something along the lines of Tachyporus hypnorum I think, but I'm not hoestly quite sure from this angle. The other one is another beetle, which goes by the name of Aphodius. Anyone care to guesstimate the species?

| | | Re: Two for ID - Damsel bug? I've had both the rove beetle and one which could be the same as the other in the last two days. I have tracked mine down to Aphodius contaminatus but the distinctive parts can't be seen in this pic.
I'll upload mine, I only got one good pic from a side angle.
I'll have to check out the staph.! It was only 3mm.

| | | Re: Two for ID - Damsel bug? What I thought was the damsel I found end April (I have looked up the Rove beetle and can see it is that now) The other was 6th October on beans!

| | | Re: Two for ID - Damsel bug? The rove beetle looks very similar to mine from the shape, the closest I have got is Phloeocharis subtilissima which is said to be common. Not absolutely certain about it as the elytra look a little longer on mine, and maybe the pronotum shape is slightly different but the tail shape fits quite well. kerbtier.de - Familienübersicht Staphylinidae (Kurzflügler)
I'll have to upload my pics of that too to compare. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
