Hi,
This little beauty I got today while it posed on a Choisya shrub. Not easy as it was dull as well as windy! Approx. 2.5mm long.
There's two which are very similar on the NHM, Euplectrus melanocephalus and Euplectrus walteri. Although this looks more like the first one, neither are on the UK list!
Universal Chalcidoidea Database
Notes on Eulophidae, where it states "The larvae of Euplectrus bicolor pupate near or beneath the host and are enclosed in flimsy cocoons"
Chalcidoidea
As I have recently taken pics of a Cicadellidae which appeared to have been parasitised with eggs in a sort of pouch attached to the abdomen I'm wondering if this is the culprit. I have a lot of different wasps though!
The only Euplectrus sp. listed here is
Euplectrus bicolor although there's many others in the family Eulophidae. The very term 'bicolor' sounds promising, but no pics anywhere I can find. As this is so close in looks to the other two species it would seem reasonable that this could be it, but not guaranteed of course!
Checklist of UK Recorded Eulophidae
I have other pics not all in focus but with some parts showing detail.
If anyone happens to have information which could pin it down that would be great!
Janet
