Is this a beetle larva? It scurried by on the cliffs near Sandown, IoW a few days ago. Around 35mm long.

| | | Re: id a beetle larva please It's definitely a carabid larva as Gerel suggested. Based on its size, it must be a Carabus sp.
If you find other ground-dwelling larvae of this general shape you can tell what family they are by looking at the number of leg segments, as staphs have 6 segments, while carabids have 5.
