| | | Cicadellidae - Hauptidia maroccana? Hi,
this looks correct to me but thought I would check, as it's supposed to be in Western England and south Wales with some expansion. It was under a Foxglove leaf, about 3mm long, on 19th June.

It certainly is! It's one of the most common in my garden, after Empoasca vitis and E. decipiens.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Cicadellidae - Hauptidia maroccana? Hi Jason,
I don't actually see that many leafhoppers, one I've seen more than others is Allygus mixtus. I have a few different ones though, still have three to pin down to an ID.
The nbn only shows 4 records, two around London, one south Wales and one Edinburgh! |

| | | Re: Cicadellidae - Hauptidia maroccana? Thanks for the info on distribution - I had no idea! So, it's ' Local' then. I saw one only last week!
Sounds good for you too - another uncommon one... |

| | | Re: Cicadellidae - Hauptidia maroccana? I'm not so sure it's that rare Jason. It seems to be a commercial greenhouse pest too, a small wasp is used to control it.
Do you have a pic of yours, I guess you would have or you wouldn't have identified it! I would like to see yours if you don't mind.
Ye I seem to be getting a few uncommons |

Ye I seem to be getting a few uncommons | I didn't say rare, just local. It's vernacular is Glasshouse Leafhopper perhaps unsurprisingly! I'll upload it tomorrow hopefully - I haven't grabbed my best off the camera yet. Also, keep an eye out for my 'Eupteryx florida' thread + story... |

| | | Re: Cicadellidae - Hauptidia maroccana? Don't trust NBN for Heteroptera! The data from the national scheme aren't included, so it's only what local recorders and individuals have entered, and not many people do these. So well done for adding another spot!
In fact, Hauptidia is pretty common, especially on things like geraniums and foxgloves, and certainly gets up to Lincoln and beyond. I've seen it in Mid Wales up a mountain, and I think I've had it up here as well. It's often conused with Arboridia species, though, which are slightly bigger and more colourful. |

| | | Re: Cicadellidae - Hauptidia maroccana? As Joe says, the NBN data for all Hemiptera is very scant and the resultant distribution maps pretty meaningless, even for conspicuous and common shieldbugs which should be well recorded.
It's a real shame when you think how excellent the mapping is for some other insect groups, such as Lepidoptera and aculeate Hymenoptera |

| Does this mean you will be adding that spot on my behalf?
I will have to post the others I can't ID soon too, some can be tricky from their variations or the angle of the photo.
Yes Jason, I noted you said 'local', my choice of words was perhaps sloppy. Waiting to see yours. |
