| | | Re: Beetle ID Hi Toby,
It looks like a Ground Beetle, Carabidae, that has lost it's wing cases. How long was it? Without the wing cases - which may carry distinctive markings - it may be difficult getting further than genus, even if that was possible from just photographs!
Take care, Jason |

Like Jason said, it's a carabid - Leistus sp. and what's left of it suggests Leistus spinibarbis. You'd need the specimen to confirm this.

I've just had a look at some of my specimens and it's a Leistus sp., but I can't be sure if it's L. spinibarbis because as far as I'm aware this species is typically metallic blue in lowland habitats, but much of the colour is restricted to the elytra. Take a look at some good sources on the web and see what you think.

| | | Re: Beetle ID thanks, I can see from various sources this is indeed a Ground beetle which is good enough. |

| | | Re: Beetle ID It looks like it's a Bembidion of some sort, don't think anyone could put this to species, though if it still had its elytra then there might have been a chance?? |
