| | | Bug ID Please...? Sorry no photo.. But quite disctinctive.
Small (5mm) creamy green coloured bug with a pointed, segmented tail, orangey coloured pincers at front. Soft bodied with small dark dots on either side of head developing into lines as they moved back along the body. Was carrying a covering of what looked like fluff and twig debris on its back. I thought it was fluff on my husbands back and went to brush it off before realising it was a bug underneath. It carefully re-arranged its covering which I has partially dislodged. We had been walking in deciduous woodland on the Norfolk broads at Horsey Mere.
You may notice from my terminology that I'm not a bug expert, but I am willing to learn.. |

| | | Re: Bug ID Please...? Sounds very much like the larva of a species og green lacewing. These are active hunters of aphids and the like. They then use the dry bodies as a form of camouflage.

| | | Re: Bug ID Please...? Sounds like a lacewing larva. They dress themselves up in the bodies of their aphid victims (delightful creatures), and the "pincers" are in fact its jaws...

| | | Re: Bug ID Please...? Thanks to both of you, my 10 year old was fascinated, and she loves Lacewings. I am sure she will be impressed, especially by the body bit..! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
