Looking on the ivy for the Myathropa florea which aeshna5 identified for me yesterday I found lots of these - and think they might be Colletes hederae? Thanks.  |

How exciting. Yes. It looks like it to me. See my blog post on them at Hunt for a Special Bee Urban Extension after my hunt for them yesterday.
and see BWARS page on them at Eyes open for Colletes hederae
Stuart (eucera) at BWARS will probably be interested in this record as well, BWARS are running a mapping project of them again this year

They're popping out of the ground everywhere at the moment - found another nest site at Yaverland, IoW on Friday afternoon...

Thanks for the info! Yes that's exactly where we are - and the cliff seems pretty alive in places with them too. I'll notify those people then. |
