| | | check my crickets please ! Hello,
Just having a stab at identifying crickets spotted around the cliffs at Yaverland, IoW yesterday. Ticks or crosses against the following would be appreciated:
I'm wondering if this is a female Grey Bush Cricket...
...also if this is another of the same...
...and if this is a female Long Conehead...
Thank you for having a look,
Rob

| | | Re: check my crickets please ! Agree with your IDs too. I don't see Grey BC often as it is mainly a coastal species. I did read that there's a tiny colony around Ladbroke Grove in London where some guy introduced them to his garden- it's difficult to imagine a more unlikely place!
Long-winged Conehead is a relatively recent colonist + was first discovered on the IOW in 1931. It wasn't until 1945 the first mainland record was discovered in West Sussex. Since the 1990s it's been spreading like wildfire + has been common around London for over 10 years now. |

Tigger, you must be right - I also saw a male the same day browsing on Ragwort.
