| | | An uncommon earwig Hi all. I thought I would share this pic with you all as I think many people are oblivious to the other earwigs that inhabit Great Britain. This little chap is a Lesne's Earwig ( Forficula lesnei). It is identified by its pale colour, smaller size and the fact that the hindwings do not protrude beyond the elytra. I have seen a lot of these recently, yet there are hardly any pics of them on the web. Hope you all enjoy what may be a new species to you, or just an uncommon one |

| | | Re: An uncommon earwig Hi Sebastian,in and around Southampton ,Lesnes is quite frequent,Im not certain of its current status.I seem to struggle to find the Lesser Earwig,Ive heard dipping into piles of horse manure works for locating these.  Jason |

IThanks for that bit of info, I heard composts are good too. I would like to find a Lesser and I believe there are a few more species, only one of which you are likely to find as the other 4 (according to a book from 1968!) are very rare or extinct in the UK! |

| | | Re: An uncommon earwig Just been looking through my Haes and Marshall,a rather interesting species is the Giant or Tawny Earwig, Lapidura riparia.It would sure make my day to see one of those,not likely though.  jason |
