I would take a punt at Aphrophora alni, the Alder Spittlebug (you find them on loads of plants as well as alder)

It does look like A. alni, but I can't quite see enough to categorically rule out that colour form of Philaenus spumarius...

I did say I was 'taking a punt' (and should have said spumarius was also a possibilty )

(Off thread a bit, one of these days I'm going to start a thread on spumarius colour forms, see how many we can get).

Ah, the confusing ol' A. alni and P. spumarius. I know there are ways, but these are the two I can never seperate! So annoying...
