I was waiting for my lift to the Station on Wednesday when this little fella turned up and went on to amuse me for the next half hour.

Agree, a succinea form. Noticed a few newly emerged + some pupae yesterday + at least 1 larva.

I wonder what the Ladybird was doing, half an hour is a long time.

Yes it looks like a Harlequin, I had quite a little party of them inside last winter and I helped most out again in spring. All I have seen since is a single larva, one pupa but no adults as yet. I have seen a lot of 7-spots though! I shouldn't worry about it being a Harlequin, they are good for cleaning up scale insects apparently.
