A great source of a variety of insects in the warm weather. Today I have a Comma, 1 Red Admiral and various unknown bees and hover-flies.   |

HI Robin,
I have been having a great time with my Ivy flowers in the last couple of warm days! So far there's only two flowers open and one looks past it, but they are attracting a few interesting wasps as well as an occasional fly.
I have a few of the very small Chalcid wasps, I spend a couple of hours with my camera pointed at one flower and anyone passing must think I'm nuts!   Can't even bring myself inside for a much needed drink, lol, I get up, check the pics then kneel down again!

On Ivy Flowers watch out for Colletes hederae - Ivy Bees - seen in the South last year... BWARS are looking for new info as to their spread this year see this page all about them

I'm on the watch for them. Think I've found a couple of nests... but no bees yet as I haven't found some ivy in bloom yet in Corfe Mullen, Dorset!

I have noticed some new nests on a sandy bank near the back of my house, I do have Mellinus arvensis which seem to be nesting in a few places and thought it could be those. I wonder if I have a chance of getting C. hederae this year as I have had Bombus hypnorum for the first time!

The Ivy Bees Colletes hederae have been all over the ivy in Sandown, Isle of Wight for at least a week now.. 
..and not a million miles away lies the nest. Here's one keeping look-out on the threshold.. 
Also abundant Red Admirals and Painted Ladies lapping up the nectar,
