| | | Re: Brachonid wasp? 7 legs!! Evening Janet,
Intresting find! I'll agree with braconid, I think - the 'orangey' wing venation in the third shot does it for me... not very scientific though, I know
I can't see any antennae either.
Take care, Jason |

A difficult one! I have just taken a quick look in a few families on HYMIS, take a look at the wings of a couple named Cynipidae under Cynipoidea Fotogalerie - Hymenoptera Information System (HymIS) |

| | | Re: Brachonid wasp? 7 legs!! I think I'm on to something, lol. I found some Oak galls, the Common Spangle gall which I have got also and are caused by Cynipid wasps! Trouble is they hatch in June with the galls falling to the ground on leaves in September (I have recently got pics of these too!) then they continue to develop until April. I wonder if the wasps could still be around since June? AIE - Pest & Disease - Oak Spangle Galls
I also discovered a fallen Oak leaf in my new pond which had a small red gall on it, that I think is the Red Currant gall caused by Cynips divisa, in turn parasitised by Torymus sp. which I also have had! Plant Galls
I don't think this looks like Cynips divisa but I have lots of pics of tiny wasps so will have to have a good look! Cynips divisa IMG_8792 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! |

| | | Re: Brachonid wasp? 7 legs!! A cynipid wasp - a male. Very difficult to be sure but may not be one of the gall causers. My guess would be one of the inquiline species in the genus Synergus. I have seen Synergus umbraculus flying this week but your insect is not that as they usually have some yellow on the head. |

Thanks, I will check out the genus Synergus and see what (or if) I can find! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
