found this one feeding on an old toadstool (prob. Amanita excelsa  )
approx 2-3 mm. I've never noticed one with an abdomen this shape before.

Seems to be some consensus then. According to the late Steve Hopkin's site A. fusca is widespread and common in a variety of habitats. Can't say I've ever noticed them before though and for a springtail it was fairly large.
There are some excellent pics on those links you posted Janet, oh for an MP-E 65 (and a better camera and a macro flash rig and, and etc.)
