Hi artemisOfIsles, welcome to WAB!
It looks like the red form of a mid instar Hawthorn Shieldbug, Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale. There is also a green form of the same stage.

Its pronotum has changed to green this afternoon. Do you know a good identification site I could try to do myself? I've searched, did find any good ones. |

Mee too and I'm glad it's not just me it does that too!
Try googling (or whatever you use to search Shield bugs - illustrated life stages this will find THAT site and some very useful charts.
Ive tried juggling with that name and I cant see what it makes of it

But it seems to be that in particular - I''ve posted others that worked ok. I was realy miffed when this happened to me just after I started on WAB and someone told me that I wasnt allowed to swear at which point the air here Was blue.
