It looks like the Common Furniture Beetle ( Anobium punctatum in Latin). The larval stage is known as woodworm. I don't know too much about eradication, though I recently read this Common furniture beetle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think you're right, in that it doesn't look right. They're usually bigger than 3mm, so I'll throw this ID ball back into your court EDIT: See what you think this is Charlie, et al. It may be the same as Tay's. 
... it shows the legs and antennae quite well.

It is a pest of stored products. Last lot I found a good few years ago was in a student flat I shared. It was in a plastic bag of curry powder. We were living in Birmingham - the balti capital. Check your stored foods.
