3 for ID on Golden rod

This afternoon's collection. I think 1. is a Volucella? 2. a bee 3. ??

3. Is a female bibionid but I carnt make out enough features to get it to species.

Dilophus febrilis female is a possibilty for #3? The pale wing tips..not sure if any others have it though.

Thanks, it certainly looks like ones in the Gallery - I had another shot but only partial of its front. Flew off quickly!

Does it show the front legs? To seperate Dilophus and Bibio you need to see these clearly.

The photo you have provided looks alot like Dilophus febrilis as Janet says, (the feature is visible) another photo would confirm this.

Yes Dilophus febrilis. Interestingly there were loads at Bempton yesterday.

Thank you! There were lots of other little black flies as well, but half that size.
