2 moths, 2 bugs, 1 hover for ID please

I saw the moth and thought - I know what that is The Snout - then I find there's more than one, the hoverfly I think is Volucella zonaria (I'm trying really hard) never seen these before now theyre everywhere. The other 2 I thought might be mirids but I know thats very general.

I think I'm missing a moth

No found it!

The first moth looks like a Crambid and with it being so light in colour I'm thinking Crambus perlella possibly.

I'll hazard a guess at Blastobasis adustella for the second moth - that is just a guess though, I'm not that up on micros!

Thanks - Ive found them in the Gallery now. I must remember to mention the size... They loom larger in my memory

Hi Lori,

Your fly is Volucella zonaria, and the bug may be Liocoris tripustulatus - so correct family!

I agree with Jason on the first plant bug, Liocoris tripustulatus but so many of them look so similar it's hard to be sure but i'm sticking to Liocoris tripustulatus

Yep, L. tripustulatus it is, and the green one is almost certainly Closterotomus norwegicus (although there are a lot of green ones!).

Thanks everyone. I have now added the correct id to my images. I am curious, do you actually rememeber all these names, or do you recognise the species and then look up the details?

Hmmm... not all. With me, I know the insect if it's one I'm familiar with - but not always the Latin letter-for-letter, so it's a case of recognising the Latin on sight when I look it up. I'm therefor in the latter bracket.

Most of them I remember, but more importantly, I know how to find out the ones I don't. This is, of course, why I stick to Hemiptera... my head's not big enough to attempt more than that.
