| | | Re: Tracinid Fly? It does rather look like one of the Sarcophaga species (Flesh Flies) but there are several alternatives and fly identification is one of my many weak spots.
Unless one of our fly experts can give a better suggestion you could try a look at the Dipteria web site. http://www.diptera.info/photogallery.php?album_id=65

| | | Re: Tracinid Fly? Thanks Geoff,
Have looked at the Dipteria web site, but it's difficult to know what features to look for to differentiate between the species, always given that my photograph actually shows any salient features.
I'm afraid I still need more help on this one!
Dave

| | | Re: Tracinid Fly? I'm still tempted to say Sarcophaga possibly S. carnaria (Flesh Fly) but I'm not sure that I can match the wing veins with your photo, and once again remember, flies aren't one of my few strong points.
I would suggest giving that photo a tighter crop and possibly a little touch of Unsharp Mask, if that is possible, to bring out more details then ask this question again with a different title to see if you can attract one of the fly experts. Perhaps something like 'Is this a Flesh Fly?'
I'm afraid that the mis-spelling of Tachinid in your original headline may have put off some people. |
