Lacking ladybirds

I have not seen a single ladybird in my garden for months, despite looking in all the usual places. I read that London Zoo was opening a habitat for them because of the threat from foreign invaders, e.g. the Harlequin. There was one of these in the garden last year but I've not seen one of them either.
Has anyone else noticed their absence?
