Hi,
If I got it right, they are red-tailed bumble bees. Why is one so small and yellow and black?
Could someone please explain to me why such a difference between the 2, in colors and size?

The large queens of Bombus lapidarius are black with red tails, and their males are smaller, and strongly marked with yellow. This is a case of sexual dimorphism. Many animals are like this including a number of butterflies and many birds |

Perhaps its worth pointing out that Queen B. lapidarius is yellow marked in other parts of its range (such as the Atlas mountains of Morocco). | | |
