Dragonfly ID please.

We had a bit of an exciting occurrence yesterday.....a rather large dragonfly clutching onto the flowers in a plant container.
It was at my parents house and we were most surprised as they live on a very busy street in the middle of town. There is always a constant stream of traffic and people walking and cycling past on the pavement right next to the house. So we couldn't believe our eyes to see such a beautiful creature right outside the window.
It actually stayed there for about three hours and even had a fly around (when we got too close) but soon returned to the same plant for about another hour.
I'm really not sure what it is as this is the first dragonfly I've seen up close, but going by the browness of the wings I would be inclined to go for a Brown Hawker.
Would I be right or is it something else?
