| | | Unidentified Cockroach & Fly Hi everyone,
I found these two today on heathland in Dorset, I'm not sure whether it will be possible to id either of them from these photos!
This Cockroach was roughly 10-15mm in length, from looking at photos on the net I'm still not sure which species it is.
I'm fairly sure this is a Chrysops sp. but again I'm unsure which species it would be (or whether it's possible to separate the different species from photos!), it was probably around 10mm in length.
Thanks for your help,

The fly is a Chrysops caecutiens.

looking at the wing key in stubbs the fly seems to match C. sepulcralis , which is a Dorset heathland species.
What do you think?

| | | Re: Unidentified Cockroach & Fly I though the thorax was to dark for C. sepulcralis (usually bronze). |

| | | Re: Unidentified Cockroach & Fly Hi
stubbs says " an entirely black small species" and "the abdomen has at most only traces of yellow triangles on the mid line"
I ( think) i can see some yellowish hairs around the midline ( or it could be my eyes )

| | | Re: Unidentified Cockroach & Fly Thankyou both for your help, I had been hoping that the fly was C. sepulcralis, apparently it's quite rare, there seems to be very little information about these on the web though!
The cockcroach may well be Ectobius lapponicus. I'd been wondering if it could be Ectobius panzeri although that was just guesswork really, again there's very little information around and all the pictures on the net seem to be of females or nymphs which are not fully winged, so I still have no idea what a male looks like!
Thanks again for your help,
