| | | Damselflies for id please Hi, I've been sorting through my Damselfly pictures taken in the last week or so and have a problem...the more i look at the pictures the less sure i am of my identification
i thought this was a common blue, but having zoomed in and looked at the markings at the base of the tail i'm not sure any more
i think this one is a newly emerged female Azure
an immature white legged (sorry not the best picture)?
and last of all
another white legged?
Please help as i'm going around in circles!! Thank you. |

| | | Re: Damselflies for id please Thanks for that Roy, just to confirm - do all white legged have the same dark markings on the end and is this the easiest way to tell common blues and white legged apart from a distance? |

| | | Re: Damselflies for id please Yes - black markings on the last segments are found on all ages, and both sexes, of White-legged Damsel, and probably are the easiest way to tell them from other species (especially from males of other species).
It is often possibly to pick them out by their more 'bouncy' flight - that takes lots of practice, and isn't exactly foolproof though!

| | | Re: Damselflies for id please Thanks again...although i've just realised that this means i've got to go through all the pictures of blue damselflies i've snapped in the last couple of weeks, check the colouring on their tails and alter the filenames! That'll teach me to snap first and think later lol. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
