Does this book cover the id of the species of Curculionidae (Entiminae)? |

| | | Re: Is this book good for ID The RES handbooks are the top of the range for insect identification keys in UK at the time they are written. So check the date - all sorts of things may have happened since any book was written. |

| | | Re: Is this book good for ID It does cover Entiminae. The version I have is 1997, and is the best there is for British species. You have to work at it, they are not easy, best left for long winter evenings. M. |

| | | Re: Is this book good for ID All of the RES keys that I have are very good, and are likely to continue to be useful in the future as long as users remember that new species will not key out correctly, and that the names may be superceeded as a result of taxonomical changes.
They are not always easy to use though, so it is always worth looking out for newer keys that may be more user friendly.
Edit: Remember that these are keys, not field guides, so don't (usually) illustrate the species, + you will need to use them with a microscope because they rely on very small details.

| | | Re: Is this book good for ID The newer handbooks have rather nice colour plates; however, as stated, these are technical keys only of use with a specimen, microscope, patience and a lot of commitment. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
