| | | Re: insects for ID Hi Ancom, and a warm welcome to WAB! 1: Is an aphid, family Aphididae. We have 500 types or so in the UK, so exact IDs are sometimes difficult. What did you find it on? 2: Is a Robberfly, family Asilidae. 3: Is a Picture-winged Fly, likely family Tephritidae. Not sure on species, though I did look at Anomoia purmunda which is commonly called a Gall-fly, not Picture-winged...
Nice shots! Do you do Latin names? |

| | | Re: insects for ID Hello Jason,
thank you SO much for your reply and all their IDs.
No1. aphid, I found on my raspberry bush
No.2 on the side of a plant pot in my garden
No.3 again on a plant in my garden. I found this fly particulalry intersting as it seemed to struggle with wings which had a joint in the middle. As if it had a second wing hanging on the first.
OK, I am a total beginner in this and came to be fascinated by insects as I love to do macro photography.
Trust me flies will never, ever be the same again. Am in awe at all the different colours etc.
Yes, I love latin name too.
Thank you again for your help.
