| | [ID] Pale bee with red abdominal markings Hi all,
I found this bee today. I thought it may be a pale, ancient Apis mellifera with disolouration, but it just doesn't quite look right for that species. The red markings look similar though... 16/07/2009 Pale Honeybee... ...or someone else?
Help please!
Take care,
Jason |

| | | Re: [ID] Pale bee with red abdominal markings It's a male Andrena. Reddish Andrenas at this time of year are most likely to be A. bimaculata or A. trimmerana. However, based on colour, the exceptionally rare A. rosae is also a possibility. |

| | | Re: [ID] Pale bee with red abdominal markings Thanks Stuart! So... based on likelihood it's Andrena bimaculata or A. trimmerana. The colour is a better match for A. rosae. So is there any way to go further, such as foodplants or other photographic angles? I have a more dorsal-based one if that would help.

| | | Re: [ID] Pale bee with red abdominal markings I don't think I imply that the colour is better match for A. rosae Jason. The amount of red in all these 3 is variable.
As far as identification is concerned, its a microscope job I'm afraid! |

| | | Re: [ID] Pale bee with red abdominal markings Ah yes, skipping ahead and not reading properly - sorry! So better put it down as Andrena sp., or Andrena cf. bimaculata, trimmerana or rosae - correct? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
