| | | Hoverflies hovering pics. Hi all,
As hoverflies hovering are a popular subject at the moment, I thought I would upload some of my pics. I had too many I thought to add to Dai's thread so thought I would start my own.
If anyone else feels they want to add their pics please do!
The subject arose in Dai's thread about blurring of wings, some may prefer this but I imagine a lot of us would like to get the wings frozen just for the heck of it.
All these pics taken this year using a Nikon D40X with Nikkor 105mm VR macro lens and 2x teleconverter, hand held. ISO400. Speeds from 1/160 to 1/125 second with f14 down to f11, depending on what the settings were at for the conditions at the time as shady areas or cloudy days require a lower speed. When confronted with a hovering hover there's usually no time to change settings! Integrated camera flash used manually as I took them all on Manual settings which means manual focussing too.
I don't have any fancy editing gear, just the Windows Vista Live which is better than the standard. I often get a lot of background noise but I'm reasonably happy with these. Wouldn't mind some improvement, but often that's down to how long the hover will hover in one spot, and how good the light is.
I've uploaded 18 pics! I haven't named some though, included are Syritta pipiens and some I can't say for sure what species they are, but all are quite small other than chunky Eristalis pertinax which I find the most difficult as they shoot off just when you get them in focus!

One from me, approaching bindweed, licking lips.
Cheers

| | | Re: Hoverflies hovering pics. Thanks! Nope...it's from the WAB Gallery. Funny, I don't know why it says that. I used Linked Image as opposed to Forum Code, that's all. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
