| | | A good evening for Glow-worms. Hi all,
Was out last night at a fairly local site with another WAB member to hopefully see some Noctilucent Cloud and Glow-worms. Weather wasn't the best for the NLC, only managing to get glimpses of NLC through gaps in the cloud.
On the Glow-worm front however, it was far more successful. On the path up to the site we counted 4, then on the site on itself we counted a further 32. It was a good session and will post up any pics once I've looked at them and seen if I have any half-decent ones.

When i was a retained Fireman, we had a gorse fire to deal with one day near Sway which is in the New Forest, we put the fire out and spent the evening damping down until way after dark, one of my crew members was trying to put out hot spots without success until someone pointed out the hot spots were in fact Gloworms.

| | | Re: A good evening for Glow-worms. I've never ever seen Glow Worms. What sort of time of night do they start glowing? And do they favour particular types of night? I'm thinking about popping down to Dunwich Heath tonight and was wondering what my chances are. Do they like the heath parts, or the trees?
Thanks |

Phil | Hi P&B. I did read somwhere that they are more likely to be found where the land is chalky and there are snails, as that is what they feed on. If you saw one at night you would know... a little yellowy-green light shining in the darkness. Amazing!
There's a website you might find interesting here, and/or if you enter glow worms in the search box in the Insects forum, it will show you all the past postings related to them (that's where I found the above website ) Hope you find some. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
