| | | Buff Tailed and Red Tailed Bees Our Lavender this year is absolutely covered in buff tailed and red tailed bees, and others but I don't know their names - just wanted to share that info lol |

| | | Re: Buff Tailed and Red Tailed Bees Hi Geoff F
Thank you for that. After looking a photo of Bombus terrestris in the Gallery, I've decided that it is not a buff tail on the lavender. Here is a pic, its tail has a larger bit of buff and it doesnt have the yellow band. Any Ideas?
and this one, is the Red tailed bee?
The photos of the other bees didn't come out well as they were a lot smaller and I had camera shake lol
Thanks again Geoff F

| | | Re: Buff Tailed and Red Tailed Bees The first of these is a male cuckoo bumble, and is either B. vestalis (more likely in southern England) or B. bohemicus (not possible to separate confidently from pics).
The red-tail is B. lapidarius |

The red-tail is B. lapidarius | Thank you eucera for the confirmation, if it helps, we are in Bedfordshire lol....I will try and get some more pics of this particular bee to see if it helps identify between B. vestalis or B. bohemicus...
Its great to be able to put a name to the creatures in the garden.

| | | Re: Buff Tailed and Red Tailed Bees Bedfordshire would suggest that this is probably B. vestalis. B. vestalis and B. bohemicus males require microscopic examination in order to separate the species | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
