| | | giant fly seen in forest... Hi all,
Just joined the site, cos i was looking round my local nature reserve today and came across the largest ???? Bug??? i've ever seen and wondered if any of you learned people out there could i dentify it for me....
with no exageration it was approx 2 to 3 inches long and 1/2 an inch wide at the abdoman, it had longish spindly yellow legs, and a long black ?? sting/probe from its hind end. it had four black wings and flew away as i was trying to memorise its features. when first spotted i thought it was a pupua and was morphasising as its rear end was pulsating/throbing, i since wonder if it was boring its probe into the log on which it was resting..
Has anyone any idea what it might have been ? it wasn't a dragon fly, it was much too heavily built..
regards Dennis... |
