| | | dragonfly emerging from garden pond Hi guys/gals
Today i was up by my small garden pond and noticed a large dragonfly on a lilly pad,it had some white substance on its body where wings join,it flew to a nearby bush.Nearby to where it flew from was a large nymph under a lilly pad.Photo below. My question is ,was the dragonfly fresh from the pond, and is the nymph in the photo alive,or is it the remains of the hatching dragonfly. Also if the nymph is alive , when can i expect it too hatch out.How long is hatching time etc. Photo were taken 6pm this evening.Lots of questions i know but really happy to have them in my tiny pond with its huge oversize lily .I think its a southern hawker |

| | | Re: dragonfly emerging from garden pond The first photo shows the exuvia ( the cast exoskeleton of the last nymphal instar), white thread are tracheal threads. On the right is the newly emerged Southern Hawker. Saw my first of these for the year today flying in a woodland glade. |

A complex and awesome moment in my books.
Great shots.
