Damsel/dragonfly ID please

Sorry but no photo! Hoping someone will be able to ID just by my description! Walking by the river today, I saw several damsel/dragonflies (?) which were actively flying around (hence no photo). They appeared to be a beautiful shade of electric blue including the wings. Not very long - maybe 2" (10cm)?? Now looking thru photos to ID this insect but I can't find any that have both wings and body which are blue. Please does anyone have idea what it could be?

That would be my thought too- these are the males you are describing.

Thanks for your replies! Ive just come back from the river again and have seen several more today! Just wish I could get a photo of one but they are too active!! Did however get a photo (not good enough to publish) of a rather nice grass snake...but thats a different forum.....!!
