| | | Pupa on pine I thought this pupa was a ladybird at first, but I can't find a match. The legs appear to be free. Any ideas ? |

| | | Re: Pupa on pine Certainly very similar to a ladybird - freshly formed pupa in 'flicking' position but the protrusions along the side of the body and the free legs aren't (to my knowledge) seen in coccinellids. It may look quite different tomorrow .... I would think Dogg's suggestion is possible .... how big is this? |

| | | Re: Pupa on pine Hmm, you live and learn. This was a large Haxy pupa size. I must have seen a million Haxy pupae (not at all stages) but the photos in charlieb's link look very convincing. It didn't have the crown of thorns, maybe that was hidden or not yet developed. The free-ish legs had me fooled. I'll go back and find it again next week. Thanks to all. Mick. |
