| | | scarce emerald damselfly? I took these today at work. I know there one of the emeralds and that scarce are present there, but confirmation they are the scarce emerald would be welcome |

I don't think you can be sure, despite the very good photos. The Scarce Emerald is generally a bit more chunky, but that doesn't help much does it ?
The male of Lestes dryas is supposed to have only the first one and a half abdominal segments blueish, rather than the entire first two, so is it ? I have photos of Lestes sponsa where they have a darkened area on the rear of the second segment. The other id features don't show up on your photos.

I'm pretty good at these in the field and if they have the hockey stick inferior appendages turned inwards then I would say Scarce. The place and timing is also spot on for these. From some of your shots I'm sure the second segment has half the pruinescence absent too.

| | | Re: scarce emerald damselfly? Pterostigma broader in Scarce larger (<3x the width) slimmer in emerald (>3x the width). However I have little experience of Scarce in the field as there are none here so only see them when dragonfly twitching. |
