Yellow and red nymph with wing buds

Stony Stratford, Bucks. On wooden fence beneath ash and willow. Snowberry bushes close by. Help with identification appreciated as always.



This looks to me like it could be a different instar nymph of the same species as seen in this posting by GreyB: A Clash of Colour : Bug Numph ID please. However the abdomen shape is quite different - is this down to species or gender maybe?

Hi Bruce,
My untrained eye is telling me that this is the same nymph and as you said maybe just a later instar, though this one does seem to carry more red colouring to it aswell.
I look forward to finding out more

Gray - Using the id that Joe gave for your post I've just located this image of Campyloneura virgula that even has the small red mark at the end of abdomen, so I'd say that confirms it.

I came across another one today and as seen in your shot this one also has the wing buds and a touch of red on the back legs and abdomen
