| | | Where are all the ladybirds this year? I haven't seen a single ladybird yet and I thought they usually appear in the Spring. There seems to be an infestation of greenfly/blackfly and I wonder what has happened to the ladybirds?
Thanks a lot! |

| | | Re: Where are all the ladybirds this year? I just popped in to ask the exact same question. Took school kids on a bug hunt yesterday not a sign. Not one in garden or signs of larvae, my cherry tree is usually covered in larvae can't spot any. We so need them as there has been an explosion of greenfly

| | | Re: Where are all the ladybirds this year? Ladybirds like almost all insects are very cyclic some years there will be loads some years not so many (remember we had a bad winter). This may be local or national. This could be the reason you are not seeing any. Lots of factors such as temperature, habitat availability, humidity, predators & parasites affect ladybird populations. Have you actively looked for them or just not seen any? try running a sweepnet through some low vegetation and you should get something. Ive not found as many 7 spots this year although I have found more 2 spots. |

| | | Re: Where are all the ladybirds this year? Locally, the new generation (mainly Adalia but with some Coccinella septempunctata) are pupal so next week should expect to see some activity. Aphids are only just beginning to appear in any number. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
