Strange-looking indeed! It's known as a 'mummy', having been injected with eggs by an ichneumon wasp whilst alive. It'll now be dead and the larvae inside developing. They'll eventually chew a whole and one or maybe more will escape. |

Thanks! I have to look these things up such as your soldier beetles, then after a couple of times I do just to check spelling. There is a limit! Great shot as usual |

I had a thread about these a while ago, including some pictures of the wasp responsible. Distinctive aphid on bramble.
